Web Designer Position

Did you become a designer to be a drone slaving away in a cubicle, or to work in a creative environment where you can do good work and have some fun doing it?

Version-X is an award-winning boutique design studio specializing in (but not limited to) identity and web design.  We’re a small team of people passionate about design, who are looking to add another designer to our team.  What we lack in dental plans and 401k’s, we make up for in a collaborative environment where you can push your creative boundaries, learn new skills, have your ideas heard, and work on a wide range of projects across an array of disciplines.

What we’re looking for from you is passion and enthusiasm for your craft, and a portfolio of work that demonstrates creativity, originality, and a strong design sensibility.  Since we are a small group, you need to be able to work well with others and show initiative. You need to be versatile, learn quickly, have original ideas and accept criticism well.  You need to be well versed in the typical design applications, HTML, CSS, have an understanding of constraints in designing for the web, and an ability to create user-centered designs.  Flash, javascript, or PHP knowledge is a huge bonus.

This is a full time on-site position at our office in Burbank.  Salary depends on what you are bringing to the table.  If you are interested in working with us, read the do’s and do not’s below and send an email with the requested materials to jobs at version-x dot com.

Do:
• send us a cover letter and resume
• send us a pdf or url to your work
• provide us with your hourly rate / salary requirements

Do Not:
• send us the cover letter you sent the last two dozen places you applied
• call or drop by the office
• ask us if we are interested in an off-site arrangement
• expect to hear from us if you didn’t follow the do’s and do not’s

Our new portfolio site is live

We just launched a new version of the Version-X portfolio site. The overall style remains the same, but pretty much everything else has been changed in order to make the site more user friendly and polished.

Most importantly, the portfolio section has been totally overhauled in order to give visitors a better "at a glance" impression of each category of work, as well as provide a greater degree of flexibility in how many projects we can show and how many images we can show per project. The overall result is cleaner portfolio organization with fewer clicks to see what you want to see.

The new blog is up and running!

A new blog design has been a long time coming as our old Wordpress version was getting long in the tooth. We decided to use ExpressionEngine for the basis of our re-design instead of Wordpress, a decision which I have been more and more happy with during the development process. ExpressionEngine's template system is extremely flexible, and also pretty easy to work with. I have been putting the new design through it's paces, but if anyone sees an error, let us know!

Version-X featured in HOW’s 9th Annual Interactive Design issue

The work we did on Scratt Surf (the flash version of the site) was a Merit Winner in How Magazine's Interactive Design Awards. We're really excited about this as it is a strong follow up to our STEP Inside Design Best of Web award from last Fall and is hopefully the start of many more to come.
